A Learning Experience
New Training Class Helps Stylists Hone Their Skills

This summer Design Remix makes its debut in our salons. An evolution of Redken’s Principle Based Design, this new training gives Stylists the opportunity to build their skills while learning how to create specific hairstyles.

Brought to life by a team of artists with diverse expertise and backgrounds, the training was developed by the Artistic Development Department, Principle Based Design (PBD) leads, Regional Development Leaders and Regional Performing Artists including Shannon King, Kim Layton, Myra Hardesty, Nick Robinette, Donna Zawislak, Heather Reid, Michelle Linn, Laurie Duryea, Rick Clark and Simone Medley.

The results of the team’s hard work are five unique haircuts ranging from a classic “bob” to an edgy “shattered” look. These sensational styles have already generated quite a buzz.

“These cuts are both timeless and trendy,” says RDL Donna Zawislak. “They can easily be adjusted by simply adding an angle or a line here or there to create the hot looks your clients crave.”

The rollout began this past March in Philadelphia when over 30 Hair Cuttery trainers underwent four days of intensive instruction as part of the “train the trainer” program.

Artistic Development Director Kim Layton says, “The training will be offered in two separate classes. In Design Remix One, Stylists will learn to create the Classic, the Shake and the Shattered looks, while in Design Remix Two, Stylists will learn the Full Curve, Alias and a texturizing segment.” Additionally, Stylists will have the opportunity after completing both classes to earn their Honors medallion.

“Principle Based Design is a great class and our people learned a lot,” says Master RPA Heather Reid. “However, with Design Remix, our Stylists take that information to the next level. They learn how to put all the PBD pieces together to create specific hairstyles.”

Zawislak goes on to note that, “These cuts are the foundations our Stylists will build on… and with a little creativity, the variety of looks they can achieve will be endless!”
